At Sells Agency, we work hard, but we also know how to make time for fun, food, and supporting a good cause. This past spring and summer, we found a few great ways to do all three. From supporting an important cause to hunting down the best barbecue in town, we made the most of the season.
Back in April, the agency was the Hydration Station sponsor for the MS Walk in North Little Rock – an event organized by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis research, advocacy and providing services to those affected by MS. But we didn’t stop at just writing a check, we showed up in force to walk the Walk. There are so many worthy causes to support, but this one holds a special place in our hearts. Mike Sells’ wife Bari has been living with MS for 46 years, after the onset of this disease just before her 16th birthday.
For much of that time, she kept her journey private, but in recent years, she’s found strength in sharing her story. When she participates in events, she chooses to do so with joy, embracing her wheelchair as part of her experience rather than a limitation. Surrounded by support and acceptance, Bari felt uplifted and grateful, cherishing the connections that remind her she’s valued for exactly who she is.
The day of the walk was a beautiful morning, made even better knowing we were walking for something bigger than ourselves. It was a great way to give back, but also a great excuse to get out of the office, spend some time together, and get our steps in, all in honor of Bari Sells, who we all love.
Not long after, summer kicked off with a little more smoke (literally). That’s when we launched the third annual Sells Food League – a friendly competition where, this year, we set out to find the best barbecue in Little Rock. It started with an AFC and NFC-style bracket of local BBQ spots. Our team set out to try one spot each week and voted on our favorites. It was fun, it was messy, and it got competitive fast.
After several weeks of pork, chicken, and way too many sides, it all came down to two finalists: Count Porkula and Wright’s BBQ. The final vote had everyone weighing in with strong opinions, one of which was that “Arkansas is a pork state,” which put Count Porkula on top.
This summer showed us just how much we value time together outside of work. Whether we were walking for a cause or eating our way through the city, we made some great memories along the way.
